How I learned about Human Trafficking
If you've been listening to the Freedom Rising podcast, you have heard part of the story of how I first learned about human trafficking and what led me to start the podcast.
When I was in college I went to a showing of the Nefarious documentary. After watching stories about women forced into a lifestyle of sexual exploitation, my heart broke. For a while, I wondered what I could do to make an impact.
Last December I participated in Dressember. It was hard to wear a dress every day, especially living in Wyoming. But I did it and it felt great. Occasionally my dress opened the conversation to human trafficking. I was also able to raise some money to Dressember's partnering agencies.
After Dressember I wondered what to do until next December. I tossed around the idea of doing a podcast but wasn't ready to commit I was afraid of failure and putting a lot of time and effort into a project that wouldn't bear any fruit. Then I read a book about finding God's purpose for your life called But Now I See by Julie Hale Maschhoff. The book said any idea that sparks your interest and brings glory to God and serves His people and not yourself, is your purpose.
And that's how I got to where I am today. I gathered my news journalism skills and lined up several interviews. Today I'm a little more than a month in I like where this is going.
